A diverse truck range
Volvo is one of the biggest truck manufacturers in the world. With Volvo Trucks and other subsidiary trade names, the Swedes are represented on all continents. The Volvo Trucks European range was completely renewed by the end of 2013 and consists of the series FL, FE, FMX, FM, FH and FH16. The range extends from the 154 kW (210 PS) 12-tonne variant to the FH16/750 – with 552 kW (750 PS) provided by the 16.1 litre D16K engine – currently the most powerful series production truck. The range also includes engines with 5.1 (D5K), 7.7 (D8K), 10.8 (D11K) and 12.8 litre cylinder capacity (D13K). Characteristically for the Swedes, there is a high degree of in-house manufacturing, including manual gearboxes and semi-automatic gearboxes that are produced in-house. A new feature is the “I-Shift Dual Clutch”, the first dual-clutch gearbox for heavy duty trucks. Other technical innovations include the predictive cruise control “I-See”, Individual Front Suspension (IFS) and the VDS (Volvo Dynamic Steering) electronically supported steering system.
The Volvo FL, lightweight and manoeuvrable
The Volvo FL is in the distribution truck category and is available as a 4x2 two-axle vehicle with a gross weight from 12 to 18 tonnes. In addition to a short and medium-length cab, a crew cab for up to 7 people is also available. For the FL’s engine, you can choose the D5K or D8K with the power outputs 154, 177, 184 and 206 kW (210, 240, 250 and 280 PS).
Not just for municipal services: the Volvo FE
The Volvo FE covers a wide field. In addition to the 4x2, it is also available as a 6x2 and 6x4 three axle vehicle. It is mainly used for distribution transport but is also used for waste disposal and on construction sites. For the standard cab, you can choose the short, medium-length or long version. A “Low-Entry” cab is also available. This is mainly used on refuse collection vehicles. As standard, Volvo supplies the FE with the D8K engine with 184, 206 or 235 kW (250, 280 or 320 PS). Alternatively, the FE is available as a gas-powered version.
For all types of use: the Volvo FM
With Volvo, the FM performs the role of the all-rounder for distribution and regional long-distance transport. Hence there is a broad range of cabs on offer comprising five cabs from the short day cab to the long high-roof cab (Globetrotter LXL). This includes a completely flat cab that is typically used for car transporters. For the engine beneath the cab, you can select the D11K or the D13K available in 7 power output levels between 243 and 368 kW (330 to 500 PS). The following drive configurations are possible: 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x2 and 8x4. With the FMX series that is specially adapted from the FM series for construction site use, there is also 4x4 and 6x6 all-wheel drive, 8x6 chassis and a variant with 397 kW (540 PS). For the FMX cab you can select the short, long or long with high-roof (Globetrotter) version.
Long-distance transport in its purest form: the Volvo FH
The Volvo FH and FH16 are available with the chassis variants (4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x2 and 8x4) and can be supplied with the following cabs: long (since December 2014 including with flat roof), long with high-roof (Globetrotter) and a spacious cab (Globetrotter XL). Both series are mainly used for long-distance transport. The FH is powered by the D13K with 309, 338, 368 or 397 kW (420, 460, 500 or 540 PS), the D16K is reserved for the FH16 and you can select power outputs of 405, 479 or 552 kW (550, 650 or 750 PS).
