The Ford Motor Company was launched in 1903 and is one of the five largest vehicle manufacturers in the world. The company's German head office has been in Cologne since 1930. The metropolis on the Rhine is also the starting point of the commercial vehicle range, which is subdivided in the Transit series panel vans and the Tourneo series combi vans.
Completely adaptable: the Ford Transit Courier
Ford recently completely reworked the long-standing classic, the Transit van. The new model series from the Cologne-based company consists of four vehicles: the Transit Courier, Transit Connect, Transit Custom and Transit. The mostly recently launched of the four, the Transit Courier has a loading volume of 2.3 cubic metres, loading length of up to 2.59 metres and is the entry point for Ford's commercial vehicle range. For under the bonnet there is a choice of a 1.0 litre petrol engine with 74 kW (100 PS) or a 1.5 or 1.6 litre diesel engine with 55 kW or 70 kW (75/95 PS).
City specialist: the Ford Transit Connect
After the Courier comes the 70 kW (95 PS) Transit Connect, which was last reworked at the end of 2013. The new version offers a loading volume of up to 3.6 cubic metres with a maximum useful load of 929 kilograms.
Medium class: the Ford Transit Custom
Next comes the 74 to 114 kW (100 to 155 PS) Transit Custom, which was the prelude to the Transit remake in 2012. The van has a useful load of 591 to 1415 kilograms and loading volume of 5.95 to 8.3 cubic metres. The short wheelbase version (2,933 millimetres) has space in the loading area for items up to three metres long. For the long wheelbase version (3,300 millimetres), the loading length increases to 3.4 metres. A 2.2 litre diesel engine with common rail injection and 74, 92 or 114 kW (100, 125 or 155 PS) is used as the power unit.
The 3.5 tonne professional: the Ford Transit
The "big one" has also been redesigned and is available both with front and rear wheel drive with loading volume up to 15.1 cubic metres and loading length up to 4,217 millimetres. The engine power ranges from 74 to 114 kW (100 to 155 PS), from 2.2 litre TDCI diesel engines.
