Scania: the mix makes it

Scania – like MAN – is a brand of the Volkswagen group and has a worldwide presence for both trucks and buses. However, Scania only produces the public service vehicle range itself; for coaches, the company cooperates with different providers to enable it to offer a full vehicle range to bus companies. Nowadays, the coaches are built by Van Hool in Europe and they are also built in the far East – the Scania Touring is manufactured by Higer in China.

Citywide: for the city

The Scania Citywide platform offers a wide range for the public transport bus market: Scania has the right solution, whether it's for inner city bus lines or the regional network, even BRT systems. A number of different designs are also available when it comes to the engines. The engine powers range from 184 kW /250 PS, through 206 kW / 280 PS to 235 kW / 320 PS. This broad range of engines not only includes diesel engines, but also biofuel - the gas engine has a power of 206 kW / 280 PS. The Citywide series can also be optionally fitted with a hybrid drive. The available lengths of the Citywide series range from 10.9 m to 18 m. In 2015, the first double-decker public service bus was introduced as part of the Citywide family.

OmniExpress: all good things come in threes

There are three versions of the Scania OmniExpress – each with numerous subvariants. This comes from the fact that Scania defined flexibility as one of the development aims for the OmniExpress. Flexibility starts with the arrangement of the door, continues with the internal space and goes as far as the different available lengths (11 m to 15 m) and heights (3.2 m, 3.4 m and 3.6 m). For the engine, there is the option of a 9 or 13-litre Scania engine with 184 kW /250 PS, 206 kW / 280 PS, 235 kW / 320 PS all meeting the Euro 6 standard, or also 301 kW / 410 PS, 331 kW / 450 PS and 360 kW / 490 PS, also meeting the Euro 6 standard.

From China for Europe

One year after the launch, the Scania Touring was supplemented by a three-axle version at the IAA 2014 in Hanover. Meanwhile, the bus is also being produced in China with a Euro 6 engine. The engine that the Swedish company is having installed for this is their large 13-litre engine with 301 kW / 410 PS for the two-axle version and 331 kW / 450 PS for the three-axle version. A power unit delivering 360 kW is also available on request. In other respects, Scania has also significantly upgraded its vehicle: for example there are new seats from Kiel, an optional arrangement for a ski case and an arrangement for a trailer coupling. The luggage compartment hatches have also been optimised: they open out further, the luggage compartment offers more volume and the loading capacity has been increased.
