The Lower Saxony based firm is currently in the race in the light commercial vehicle segment with its models Caddy, Transporter and Crafter.
Sixth generation success: the VW T6
In spring 2015, VW launched the new design of its hugely successful Transporter model, the T6. Around twelve million vehicles in the T-series have been sold in the last 65 years, including all predecessors. The sixth generation of this classic van is also available as a panel van, combi, pick-up and chassis cab with various bodies. The loading volume ranges from the basic version with 5.8 cubic metres, the van variants with a medium height roof and 6.7 cubic metres, to the high-roof model with 9.3 cubic metres. When it comes to useful load, the new T6 takes between 0.8 to 1.4 tonnes. Powering the vans are diesel engines with powers of 62, 75 and 110 kW (84, 102 and 150 PS). There is also a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the range, with a power of 110 or 150 kW (150 or 204 PS).
Completely new: the VW Caddy
The smallest member of the Volkswagen van range is the city-friendly Caddy van. Volkswagen produces the Caddy in both the 4.41 metre length base version and the Maxi version which is 47 centimetres longer. While the loading space of the conventional Caddy is 1,781 millimetres long and 3.2 cubic metres in volume, its bigger brother goes up to 2,205 millimetres and 4.2 cubic metres respectively. The useful load ranges from 541 to 813 kilograms. The diesel and petrol engines of the Caddy have a power of between 55 and 103 kW (75-140 PS). In addition, the Caddy Maxi has a 125 kW (170 PS) high-performance engine.
Almost a track athlete: the VW Crafter
For the Crafter panel van from Volkswagen, the permissible total weight and loading volume differs depending on the wheelbase. The total weights are 3.0, 3.5 and 5.0 tonnes. The large vans are available from VW as panel vans, pickups, chassis cabs, combis and minibuses and come in three different heights and four different lengths. There are eight levels of loading volumes available, ranging from 7.5 to 17 cubic metres. The useful load of up to a maximum of 2,735 kilograms is also one of the highest in this vehicle category. For the Crafters, you can choose from three different 2.0-litre TDI engine versions with common rail direct fuel injection from the group's engine range, with powers of 80, 100 or 120 kW (109, 136 or 163 PS).
