Mercedes-Benz is a registered trademark for vehicles from Daimler AG. The name Daimler-Benz AG came into being in 1926 after the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (Mercedes marque) and Benz & Cie. The company, based in the German state of Swabia, offers the Citan, Vito and Sprinter series of light commercial vehicles. The long-standing Vario model is no longer manufactured however.
Passenger car comfort in a van: the Mercedes Vito
Mercedes-Benz publicly presented the new Vito during the 2014 IAA International Automobile Exhibition. The Swabian company is offering the new generation of the van in three lengths (compact, long and extra-long) with two different wheelbases. The dimensions of the new Vito are almost the same as the previous model. The loading volume is up to 7.4 cubic metres and the useful load is a maximum of 1,369 kilograms. The Vito can be powered by a 1.6 litre four-cylinder diesel engine (65 or 84 kW/88 or 114 PS) or a 2.1 litre turbodiesel engine with 100, 120 or 140 kW (136, 163 or 190 PS).
The flag bearer in its class: the Mercedes Sprinter
In 2013, Mercedes-Benz rejuvenated its large van, the Sprinter. Alongside the model change, the Swabian company also changed all the power units to Euro 6. As well as the four and six cylinder diesel engines with 70 to 140 kW (95 to 190 PS), there is a 1.8 litre four cylinder petrol engine with 115 kW (156 PS) which also comes as a natural gas version. With a loading volume of 17 cubic metres and useful load of up to 2.7 tonnes, it belongs in the top group in the sector.
City run-around: the Mercedes Citan
In 2012, the Citan was the first small van to enter the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle range. It was developed by a collaborative effort between Daimler and Renault-Nissan. The panel van is available in three different lengths: 3.94 metres (Citan compact), 4.32 metres (Citan long) and 4.71 metres (Citan extra-long). Depending on the version, the length of its loading space measures from 1.36 to 2.13 metres. The corresponding volumes are 2.4 to 3.8 cubic metres. The useful loads range from 415 to 735 kilograms depending on the length and weight options. The choice of three different turbodiesel direct injection engines with 55 to 81 kW (75 to 110 PS) are accompanied by an 84 kW (114 PS) petrol engine.
After 46 years in operation, another Mercedes-Benz classic went into retirement. Due to the regulatory introduction of Euro 6, production of the large van Vario was finally discontinued from the 2014 model year. EUROPART will of course continue to supply wearing and spare parts for this series.
