What is PAO?
Polyalphaolefin (PAO) is a fully synthetic base oil that is often used to meet the requirements of modern engines. In combination with base oils, PAO-based engine oils therefore offer a high-quality base oil structure for robust and long-lasting applications in commercial vehicles. Compared to mineral oils, which are more suitable for older vehicles with lower requirements, PAO oils offer a more uniform molecular structure and therefore higher resistance and improved performance. Mineral oils are based on refined petroleum and are more prone to thermal degradation, making them less suitable for the complex requirements of modern engines. Synthetic oils, such as PAO oils, on the other hand, are continuously being developed to meet the high demands.
Advantages of PAO synthesis technology:
- Outstanding thermal stability: PAO-based engine oils offer excellent resistance to high temperatures and oxidation. In modern, highly stressed diesel truck engines, especially in engines with turbochargers, PAO technology protects the oil from premature degradation.

- Outstanding viscosity stability: PAO oils retain their viscosity over a wide temperature range. This means that the oil retains its lubricity at both high and low temperatures. This minimizes engine wear and can even optimize fuel consumption, which is of great economic importance, especially for fleet operators.
